Overview of Business

PT Elders Indonesia is a registered Indonesian company and wholly owned by Elders Ltd. It was established in September 2000 with a business license to import, fatten and sell beef cattle, and to process and sell boxed chilled and frozen beef. In the early years small traditional feedlots in West Java were leased as a knowledge and customer base was developed.

Today PTEI owns and operates a feedlot on 50 hectares in Lampung Province on the island of Sumatra. The feedlot is situated adjacent to the Trans-Sumatra highway and 30 mins drive from the only airport in the Province.  It has an existing capacity of 5,000 head of beef cattle. Facilities include modern feeding systems, feed storage facilirires and two sets of cattle handling yards for induction and sales. A licensed quarantine facility allows the receieval of imported cattle direct from Australia.

Typically cattle are fed for an average of 90 days on a range of commodities which mostly are by-products of other food industries; i.e. Copra, Palm Kernal Cake, Rice Bran, Tapioca waste and Corn Chop. Cattle are marketed mostly to other areas of Sumatra with a small % going to our own brand of boxed beef.

In November 2005, we commenced with a beef brand called Sterling beef by Elders in conjunction with Sukanda Djaya, a local distributor of chilled and frozen foods. The abattoir is situated at IPB (Institut Pertanian Bogor), 1 ½ hrs to the south of Jakarta. The abattoir is equipped with modern food processing equipment and we employ modern food processing practices and procedures.  HACCP and ISO 9000 certification was awarded by SAI Global in 2008 making this the only abattoir in Indonesia with such standards.

'Sterling beef by Elders' targets the Hotel, restaurant, institutional trade whilst Modern Retail underpins the brand as these markets expand rapidly across Indonesia. Today it is available in almost every corner of Indonesia.
